1. 研究資訊在科學研究的過程中，扮演了相當重要的角色；沒有資料，就無法進行研究，更無法對科學研究帶來新的進展。研究人員必須花費很多時間和心力蒐集高品質的資料，再將這些資料進行許多應用，例如：支持或否定自己的研究假設、探索新的發現、驗證舊的理論，或作為探究新技術或建立新實驗方法的基礎等。
