學術不誠實一詞時常與學術不當行為（academic misconduct）、欺騙（cheating）、抄襲（plagiarism）、不實陳述（misrepresentation）、學術欺騙（academic fraud）等詞彙交互使用，雖然名稱不同，但意涵相似，都是指涉有關學生在學術活動中之不合倫理的行為。
