指研究者寫完一個研究的背景、文獻、方法（如同一般的研究程序）後，就先向欲投稿的期刊註冊並接受匿名審查，如果接受了，作者後來也都嚴格照著審查過的研究計畫去收集資料、完成寫作，這樣不論研究結果為何（例 如結果不符原來假設、未能獲致顯著效果等），期刊都會接受刊登，不但可避免審查制度中可能的偏見問題，也算是一種參與開放科學的方式。

1. Registered Reports is a publishing format that emphasizes the importance of the research question and the quality of methodology by conducting peer review prior to data collection. High quality protocols are then provisionally accepted for publication if the authors follow through with the registered methodology.
   

2. A Registered Report is an original research article which undergoes a two-stage peer review process. The final acceptance of the manuscript does not depend on the results obtained, but only on the rigour of the methodology and how well developed was the research question.
